General information
RSM Press is the publishing arm of the RSM and was established in 1981. RSM Press is a wholly-owned trading subsidiary of the Royal Society of Medicine, a leading charity founded in 1805 whose principal aim is the postgraduate multiprofessional education of doctors and other healthcare professionals. RSM Press employs 18 full-time staff, and the total staff of the RSM is 160.
RSM Press is a limited company with its own Board. Our Chairman is Dame Deirdre Hine, whose distinguished career has included the positions of CMO for Wales and President of the RSM, among others. In addition to full-time publishing staff, the Board also includes non-executive directors with specialist expertise in publishing. RSM Press has no external shareholders, and all profits go to the Society and help to underpin its educational activities.
We currently publish 18 journals, including leading titles in their particular field such as Journal of Telemedicine and Telecare, Phlebology and Menopause International. 2006 saw the launch of the new journal Clinical Ethics, and we have plans for new launches for 2008 and 2009. We also have an active book publishing programme of some 40 titles per year, and have particular strengths in postgraduate exam-related materials, both print and online.
We have recently completed a major programme of investment in our journal publishing, including:
RSM Press is not only an excellent publisher of healthcare books and journals but is also part of a professional membership organisation committed to professional education and development. Unlike commercially driven publishers, our values are closely aligned with those of your own society. Equally, we have invested in our journal publishing to ensure that our effectiveness and ability to grow readership and revenues is on a par with our peers, be these not-for-profit or corporate.
